Cheap Residential Phone Plans

Plagued by Phone Service Plans from the Dark Ages?
VoIP Phone Service is Cheap!
Cheap residential phone plans are easier to get than you may think, when you switch to Internet Phone Service, also known as VoIP (Voice Over Internet Protocol.)
If you haven't heard of this before, all you need to know is, yes you have heard of it, so quit being difficult. To quote myself from the article I wrote yesterday: "Okay, if you haven't seen at least one (Vonage) TV ad, mailer, or flyer at the drug store in the past week, you must be living in a cave." Most people are familiar with Vonage, even if they don't realize Vonage phone service is indeed VoIP.
VoIP calls are routed over the internet, and the only requirement is that you have broadband (highspeed) internet service. You don't even need a computer - just an active broadband account and modem (DSL or Cable) and you are on your way to finding a cheap residential phone plan that royally kicks butt on the old fashioned phone company. Not just because it is a cheap phone plan, but because it's way more powerful and flexible than regular lame old phone service. (Note the tone of completely unbiased neutrality with which I present the subject.)
So, how cheap is cheap you say? Very good question. Your exceptionally perceptive. Do people say that to you a lot? Yes, yes they do I am quite sure.
The quick answer is, about $9.95 for unlimited local and long distance in the U.S. and Canada. It ranges up to $24.95 for comparable packages when compare the major VoIP providers accross the board.
(Note: $24.95, while mildly cheap, it is not nearly as good, nay, as cheap, as $9.95. So, the publisher(s) of this article certainly recommend that, wherever possible, you choose the $9.95 plan. Don't worry, we'll show you where to go to just that, in just a second. Just keep reading.)
Without further ado, I present to you several recommendations for cheap residential phone plans by top voip providers, some of which have special offers and promotions, just to make things so cheap that most of us will be unable to contain ourselves. As such, do visit the little girls room (or go see a man about a hourse) prior to reading on. Are we good to go? Wonderful! Here you are:
Phone Power! has some of the best promotional prices in the business currently. They offer unlimited local and LD for only $9.95 (for the first 3 months. After that, the unlimited plan goes up to 19.95, not to shabby eh?) Now, this is a truly cheap residential phone plan, and I suggest you march over to their website right now and sign up, young Lady/Man.
Lingo VoIP:
Lingo has a "Chatter Box Plan" with unlimited local and long distance. The price is 21.95 per month, which may not be the cheapest plan around, as discussed above, but here's the thing, see: they are offering 3 MONTHS FREE at the moment. So when you do the math (since I can't) that comes out to...cheaper than $21.95 for sure. Also of note, Lingo offers some of the most competitive world wide calling rates available, especially on calls to India and South Asia for 2.9c per minute. Award winning service, and they are reasonably cheap.
Via Talk:
Okay, now we're getting creative, and really extremely cheap here. With Via Talk, you can currently get an unlimited local/LD plan for $199 per YEAR, which works out to around $14 a month (I am told, not so sharp at math personally.) Okay, here is the clincher: You get 1 YEAR FREE. BaYam! you just got down to $7/month for UNLIMITED CALLING. Okay, can you comprehend how cheap this phone service plan really is? Really?
Alright, I am giving you one more, and then you're on your own. This article is too long, and my fingers hurt. JoiPhone is currently running a special promotion, offering $17.95/mo for 2 JoiPhone Unlimited plans with UNLIMITED Long Distance. Again, this works out to like, 9 bucks a month (I've heard.) JoiPhone claims this is the lowest price in the nation currently (except that ViaTalks $7 per month is actually lower, but we won't tell JoiPhone. But, for the extra $2 bucks per month, you can avoid shelling out a whopping $199 all at one time.)
To reiterate what I left unsaid above, I think my work is done here. If it were me, I would blindly click on a link above, sign up for a plan immediately, and then ask questions later, if ever. After all, that's how I make all of my decisions and online purchases, and look at me? I'm proud of my timeshare in Siberia, definitely will take FULL advantage of that prudent buying decision that I am locked into until 2040.
Trust me, you'll be in a better position than you would if you continue to let that old fashioned Ma Bell phone company run you in circles forever with bad "on hold" music when you call in with a problem, and continue to way over charge you coming and going. (Again, neutrality rules the day. I stand by that.)
But, If you're still ahankerin' for more great, cheap residential phone plans, check out IPCompare.com, and compare VoIP services of all the major providers, see feature lists side by side, and read reviews by real customers.
